Spring Sports Program 2013
Good Shepherd School is proud to announce the creation of a new Spring Sports Program!
Led by Coach Kevin Fraggi, Good Shepherd is developing fun and competitive teams in four sports: Track & Field, Golf, Bowling, and Volleyball.
Track & Field
Good Shepherd’s Track & Filed athletes will compete in at least two meets this Spring:
- Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Serra High School
- Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Serra High School
- Possible meets in May if team qualifies
The team is open to students in grades 3-8. Teammates will be divided into levels and compete against other based on grade.
- Level A: Grades 7-8
- Level B: Grades 5-6
- Level C: Grades 3-4
Students can train and compete in the following events based on students skills, abilities, and interests.
Track Events
- 4 x 100 Meter Relay
- 1600 Meter Run
- 400 Meter Dash
- 100 Meter Dash
- 50 Meter Dash
- 800 Meter Run
- 200 Meter Dash
- 4 x 400 Meter Relay
Field Events
- Long Jump
- Shot Put
- Javelin Throw
Practice begins Monday, March 18, 2013, at 3:15 pm and continue on the following schedule (subject to change):
- Monday: 3:15-5:15 pm
- Tuesday: 3:15-5:15 pm
- Wednesday: 3:15-5:15 pm
- Thursday: 3:15-4:15 pm
Practices will initially begin at Good Shepherd School, but later practices will move to Beverly Hills High School or Armand Hammer/Holmby Hills Park. Students should wear shorts, T-Shirt, and athletic shoes (preferably running shoes, but no Vans or other fashion sneakers). Please bring water and sunscreen to every practice.

A completed Sports Contract with $100 fee is required.
Golf
The Good Shepherd Golf Team is looking to recruit and train athletes for next season. It is open to grades 3-8. (Current 2nd graders may join now in preparation for next season.)
Practices will be on the following schedule:
- Friday: 1:30-3:30 or 4:40 pm
- Saturday: 12:00-2:00 or 3:00 pm
Practice locations alternate between the following:
- Rancho Park Driving Range
- Armand Hammer/Holmby Hills Park Golf Course
- Heroes Golf Course

A completed Sports Contract with $100 fee is required. Athletes must provide their own clubs.
Bowling
The Good Shepherd Bowling Team is looking to recruit and train athletes for next season. It is open to grades 3-8. (Current 2nd graders may join now in preparation for next season.)
Practices will be on the following schedule:
- Saturday: 4:00-6:00 pm

Volleyball
This is a clinic to train for the 2013-14 season. It is open to grades 3-8. (Current 2nd graders may join now in preparation for next season.)

Coach Fraggi
Coach Kevin Fraggi has over 12 years of experience coaching youth athletics. He has various individual and team coaching accolades. He is a former 4-sport athlete, specializing in football, basketball, baseball, and track & field.

Volunteers
There is a volunteer position to record and track Service Hours. Basic duties are to keep track of school’s volunteer hours for families.
Inputting is done on your time schedule.
Please contact Jamie Fries at 646-460-9845 if you have more questions or would like to volunteer for this position.
It will take care of your 40 hours for the school year.

Thank you to all the parents who made Teacher Appreciation Week a wonderful experience for all of us. We enjoyed the breakfasts and lunches and all you did to make our week a memorable one!
DID YOU KNOW?
- Pre-K had fun walking to the park to play and making cards for their mothers!
- Kindergarten experimented with primary and secondary colors by mixing them.
- First grade enjoyed honoring their mothers with a “Popcorn Party” and music video premiere on Friday!
- Second grade created a timeline with pictures and events from their life.
- Third grade enjoyed learning about the construction of the Statue of Liberty
- Fourth grade learned about entrepreneurs during the gold rush including Levi Strauss who invented blue jeans and Ghirardelli’s sweet start creating his chocolate.
- Fifth grade hopes Ms. Phillips has fun at her daughter’s wedding this weekend.
- Sixth grade is collecting diaper and baby wipes during the month of May to help mothers and babies in need.
- Seventh grade is working on the program for the 8th grade graduation breakfast.
- Eighth grade is really looking forward to their trip to Disneyland next week.

Lunch Orders
Chef Alan Traynor and The Crack of Dawn Catering are
providing healthy lunch options Monday – Thursday.
Click sandwich
to register and place your orders for lunch.
Place your order by 8pm for the following day. If your child is absent you are responsible for canceling the order by 8 pm the night before.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures
Students will be dismissed from the school yard at the end of the day. They will wait in lines and face the alley. When you pick up your children, you will need to:
1. K- 8th Grade Parents will drive NORTH on McCarty Drive
2. Turn left into the alley near the parking structure.
3. Turn left and drive SOUTH in the alley behind the school. Please DO NOT PARK or STOP in the alley to wait for your children.
4. Display your “school bus tag” on your dashboard to identify who you are picking up and to assist the teachers in getting children into cars.
5. After you have picked up your child, continue SOUTH in the alley and exit onto Charleville Blvd.
6. There will be NO PARKING in front of the school. Only Pre-school students and their siblings will use this area for dismissal. If you wish to walk in and pick up your children, you will need to park in a designated zone on a street and enter the school gate via the alley.
NOTE: If it is raining heavily, pickup will be in front of the building.
