As our new school year continues special thoughts turn to ensuring that extra safety precautions are taken while our children are at school and engaged in extra-curricular activities. Throughout the year, we are conscious of taking great care of our children and youth, in and around the home and in our neighborhoods. One step toward that end is to provide VIRTUS Training, required of all who work with and around children at Archdiocesan sponsored or supported activities, as directed by the USCCB Charter on the Protection of Children and Youth, and the Los Angeles Archdiocesan policies and guidelines of the Safeguard the Children Program.
All who have not taken the training and work with and/or around children and youth in a volunteer or paid position must take the VIRTUS training and/or sign the Code of Conduct Form.
The Safeguard the Children Committee is pleased to announce another series of VIRTUS Training sessions for those who work with and around children and youth in the Good Shepherd Parish and others who may be interested. As you are all aware, VIRTUS is an important part of the Safeguard the Children Program, one of the key elements of the USCCB’s Charter to Protect Children and Youth. If you or anyone you know who works with children and youth in our Parish have not taken the Training, your are encouraged to register right away for one of the sessions noted below. Please contact our certified Facilitator, Patty Formeca at 310.271.9745 if you have questions. Support the effort to safeguard our children. We hope to see you at one of the interesting and enlightening VIRTUS sessions.
Anyone who volunteers at the school will need to receive certification in this class. (This is a Free Service)
1. Go to the www.virtus.org website to find a class near you.
2. When the website comes up click the yellow Help line on the left side of the page.
3. Click on View list of upcoming Protecting God’s Children Sessions in your area on the right side of the page at the top of the list.
4. Under select your organization scroll down to Los Angeles Archdiocese and the region where you want to attend a session (For example: If you are looking for a session in the San Gabriel Region scroll down and click on: Los Angeles-San Gabriel (Archdiocese) and click select and the available sessions in that area will appear. You may also try to find a session in another region if the ones in your region are not available or do not work for you. (For example: If you want to go in the San Fernando Region scroll down and click: Los Angeles – San Fernando (Archdiocese), etc.
5. Then you can click Registration and register for that session.
Note: Most sessions are opened to participants from other parishes/schools but you must call the number in the message box to reserve a space. Occasionally sessions are limited to participants from the church/school only, please select another session.
